The Delta State Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit says it has apprehended two suspects with illicit hard drugs in Asaba, the state’s capital.

News About Nigeria reports that the suspects, arrested on June 13, were identified as Emeka Ozumu, 49 years old, and Patrick Otukam, 30 years old.

Thirteen bottles of codeine, as well as 23 sachets of tramadol and other hard drugs, were among the items recovered from them.

This was contained in a statement by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.

Meanwhile, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, has urged youths to shun all forms of crime and stay away from drug abuse, as it is dangerous to their health and also capable of pushing them into criminal activities.

CP Olufemi noted that operatives of the Crack Squad, Monitoring Unit, and Raiders Squad have been deployed to crack down on drug-peddling hideouts in the state.

He warned that anyone found wanting would be arrested and charged in court.

In February, operatives of the Delta State Police Command arrested a suspected armed robber during a stop-and-search operation.

The state commissioner of police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, said a ‘stop and search’ police patrol team recovered one locally made gun and two live cartridges from the suspected armed robber.

The CP warned that “all forms of criminality, lawlessness, or behaviour that contravene the laws of the land will be dealt with accordingly.”

However, he appealed to law-abiding members of the public to always report any criminal activities to the nearest police station or call the Command Control Room at 08036684974; 08125958005; 09053872287 while alternatively, anonymous tip-off could be relayed via the PPRO Office 09155570007; 09155570008 “with confidence that the Command will act swiftly and treat their identities with utmost confidentiality.”
