On Wednesday, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, charged Nigerians to relax as they would soon begin to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
The speaker said this while congratulating Nigerians on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of unbroken democratic governance in the country.
News About Nigeria reports that Nigeria became a democratic nation after the regime of General Abdulsalami Abubakar handed over power to the democratically elected government of Olusegun Obasanjo on May 29, 1999.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, Abbas noted that Nigeria has evolved in the past 25 years.
He further stated that with the all-round growth that the nation is experiencing, “the dividends of democracy are bound to reach more Nigerians.”
The statement read in part, “Democracy has come to stay in Nigeria. The country has been navigating through the learning curves successfully; though it is not yet, the country has continued to grow in democratic experience and practice.”
Abbas, therefore, tasked Nigerians across tribes and religions, genders, and age groups to continue to play their part towards the growth and development of the country, assuring that Nigerians would soon become a great nation that citizens would be proud of.
He also charged them to continue to support the Bola Tinubu-led government.
Meanwhile, Speaker Abbas also congratulated the House of Representatives, as this year’s Democracy Day celebration coincides with the first anniversary of the 10th Assembly.
Recall that the 10th National Assembly was inaugurated on June 13, 2023, by President Tinubu.
