Following the suspension of the nationwide strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), airports in Lagos and other parts of the country have resumed flight operations, News About Nigeria reports.
The General Secretary of the Air Traffic Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Francis Akinjole, disclosed this on Tuesday.
He noted that the lift on the flight ban operating across the country is to enable the unions to continue talks with the federal government on a new minimum wage.
Recall that the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) declared a nationwide strike on June 3 to drive home their demands for a new minimum wage for workers in the country.
The strike affected all sectors in the country, as schools, banks, airports, and other sectors were instructed to cease operations and join in the strike.
On Tuesday, however, Congress suspended the strike for a week, to enable the unions and the Federal Government to have more tripartite meetings in regard to their demands.
Akinjole stated that all blocked access points at the domestic airport terminals I (General Aviation Terminal) and II (Murtala Muhammed Airport II, Lagos) and others have been opened, and flight operations can continue.
Similarly, the President General of the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP), Alale Adedayo, said that organised labour had accepted the Federal Government’s offer for continued negotiations.
He further noted that flight operations have re-started on the domestic wing of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, and activities at the domestic wing are in full swing.
