Oyo Court Remands 25 Ajayi Crowther University Students Over Alex Timileyin’s Murder

The Oyo State Government condemned the gruesome murder of a 200-level student at Ajayi Crowther University, Alex Timileyi.

News About Nigeria reports that Timileyi died after he was tortured for eight hours by his fellow students in one of the school’s hostels on campus, known as Shepherd Inn.

His colleagues had claimed that Timileyi was beaten to death because he stole a mobile phone.

Reacting to his tragic demise on Tuesday, the Oyo State government, through the state’s Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, charged the school to ensure that justice is served and that the perpetrators of the heinous act are brought to book.

The state government also called for calm among residents and students, noting that security agencies are partnering with the school to ensure that there is no repetition of such acts.

The state commissioner for education, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, also noted that Governor Seyi Makinde is committed to ensuring that the state is safe for students.

The statement by Adebalu reads, “Ajayi Crowther University management has been implored to beef up security within the campus to forestall the reoccurrence of such an incident and ensure culprits are brought to book. The Oyo State Government has called for calm among parties involved in the lingering crisis at Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo while security agencies investigate to ascertain the origin of the incident and take appropriate action.

“The state government has been discussing with the management of the institution towards finding lasting solutions to the crisis. Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration is committed to providing a peaceful environment for academic excellence; hence, there is a need for the students to abide by the rules and regulations laid down by the authorities of various institutions.”

While mourning the deceased student, the government tasked students of the institution to stay away from activities capable of jeopardising their future and focus on excelling academically.
