Fresh Twist As Court Orders Eviction Of Kano Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi, From Palace

The developments in Kano State are swiftly unfolding as top security operatives have moved into the Kofar Kudd Palace, where Emir Muhammadu Sanusi is currently residing.

News About Nigeria reports that this move comes after Governor Abba Yusuf reinstated Sanusi, who entered the palace in the early hours of the day.

However, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the deposed Emir of Kano, returned to the ancient city and settled into a mini-palace.

Following the arrival of Bayero and Governor Yusuf’s order for his arrest, a team of soldiers was deployed to the mini-palace of the dethroned Emir.

The police have stated that they will obey the court’s order against Sanusi’s reinstatement.

Addressing a press briefing on Saturday morning, the Commissioner of Police, Usaini Mohammed Gumel, warned troublemakers to steer clear.

He said the Police Command is committed to carrying out its statutory duties as provided by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Gumel advised the public to remain calm and patient, as the matter will be addressed by the Court on June 3, 2024.

He also warned that anyone found planning to disrupt the peace or jeopardise the existing security settings in the state would be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.

Recall that on Thursday, a Federal High Court in Kano issued an ex-parte order restraining Governor Abba Yusuf from reinstating Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The order also halted the implementation of the new law that abolished the four emirates of Bichi, Gaya, Karaye, and Rano. Governor Yusuf, however, faulted the order, claiming that the judge issued it from the United States.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu’s National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, was involved in the return of the dethroned Emir to the palace. Gwarzo claimed that Ribadu arranged for two jets to transport Ado Bayero back to Kano.

“The National Security Adviser gave two jets to bring the dethroned emir to Kano and to bring him to the place. We have not understood their intention,” he alleged.
