The forum of Islamic clergy in Kano, Ulama, called on President Bola Tinubu on Saturday to intervene in the ongoing Emir tussle in the state, News About Nigeria reports.
The Islamic group also charged the president to prevent any actions that may disrupt law and order in Kano State.
Their appeal to the president was contained in a statement signed by 18 members of the Ulama.
In the statement, the clergies expressed their concerns, noting that if not properly handled, the Emir tussle could escalate into chaos and anarchy.
The statement partly reads, “Kano State is one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria despite its political complexity. The recent happenings in the Emirate, if not carefully handled, could escalate and degenerate into chaos. It is imperative for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take all necessary steps to maintain peace in the state. Mr. President, as the leader of the nation, should not allow the contest for a royal stool to degenerate into violence.
“We are calling on Mr President to allow the people of Kano State to resolve these issues amicably without the use of any force and loss of lives. Kano State is one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, therefore we the undersigned call on both contending parties to use civil means in resolving their differences to allow peace to reign in the state. As major stakeholders in the state, we want Mr. President to reach out to assure contenders.”
The Islamic scholars further urged President Tinubu to support the Kano state government on the grounds that the governor, Abba Yusuf, acted according to the law as “it is the purview of the State House of Assembly to enact Laws for good governance.”
