Chief Tony Okocha, the Leader and Caretaker Committee Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has invited Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to join the APC.
News About Nigeria reports that Okocha made this statement while addressing a crowd during a one million man solidarity march for President Tinubu in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
According to the APC leader, he is convinced that Wike’s membership would boost the party’s chances of winning elections, particularly in the 2027 presidential race, where President Bola Tinubu is seeking re-election.
Wike is a member of the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) but was appointed as the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by Tinubu.
The march, organized by the Renewed Hope family, began at G.R.A. Junction and ended at the APC secretariat along Aba-Port Harcourt.
When asked about Wike’s image on the banners, Okocha replied, “We want him to join us. He’s a game-changer with the Midas touch. We’ve been wooing him to help us win elections, particularly in 2027.”
Okocha praised Wike as a detribalized leader, unlike the current Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, who he accused of ethnicizing the state.
Okocha claimed Fubara has deviated from Wike’s leadership ethos, promoting his ethnic nationality instead of uniting the state. He emphasized that Rivers State has moved beyond ethnic divisions and urged Fubara to follow Wike’s example.
The solidarity march was a demonstration of the APC’s strength in Rivers State, Okocha said, adding that it was just a glimpse of what the party can achieve when united.
He expressed confidence that if all APC supporters and Tinubu’s fans in Rivers State come together, no venue in Port Harcourt would be large enough to accommodate them.
