The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has constituted a 152-member national campaign council to ensure victory in the September 16 Edo governorship election.
This was announced in a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Wednesday in Abuja, News About Nigeria reports.
The statement revealed that the council, chaired by Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, will be inaugurated on June 11.
Other members include Governors Kefas Agbu of Plateau and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta as deputy chairmen, as well as former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Nnamadi Sambo, and the Party Board of Trustees Chairman, Sen. Adolphus Wabara.
The PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagun, and governors on the PDP platform are also part of the council. The National Working Committee is committed to ensuring victory for the party in the Edo election.
Recall that the PDP governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, had expressed confidence in winning the election.
Ighodalo received his Certificate of Return from the party’s National Working Committee in February after emerging as the winner of the PDP primary election held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
Ighodalo polled 577 of the 585 accredited votes, defeating nine other aspirants, including the impeached deputy governor of the state, Philip Shaibu. While presenting the certificate of return, the party’s National Chairman, Umar Damagum, expressed confidence in the party’s chances, stating that they will remain in power in Edo State.
Ighodalo appreciated the party’s confidence in him and promised to transform Edo State into a first-world economy if elected as governor. He also called on other aspirants and party members to partner with him in the forthcoming election.
