Kano Court Disqualifies All 44 NNPP Candidates Ahead Of LG Polls

Following the move by the Kano State House of Assembly to revisit and amend the Kano Emirate Council laws, a chieftain of the Karaye Emirate, Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso has resigned his title.

According to Kwankwaso, who served as the Sarkin Karaye (Defence Minister of Karaye), he chose to resign because the system had been politicized.

He further explained that he decided to leave to avoid the embarrassment of being sent packing by ‘powers that be’, he lamented that every administration that comes into power has a ritual of appointing a new Emir.

Kwankwaso said, “I better leave on time before it is too late and I am sent packing. The whole thing has been politicized. It is a new norm now for every regime that comes to power to appoint its Emirs. It is for the APC to remain calm and work towards snatching powers in 2027 and appoint our own Emir.”

News About Nigeria had reported that the amendment of the Emirate laws on Wednesday scaled first reading on the floor of the Kano State House of Assembly.

It was gathered that the last amendment of the Emirate law was done by the immediate past administration of former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and this paved the way for the splitting of Kano Emirate and the creation of additional emirates namely Bichi, Gaya, Karaye and Rano in the state.

The former governor had also dethroned the Emir, Sanusi Muhammad II who was appointed by his predecessor, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

The incumbent Governor, Abba Yusuf, has now given the go-ahead for the amendment of the Emirate law.
