Former Rivers Commissioner Claims Wike Elevated Fubara To Governorship Status

Chief Emeka Charles Kalu, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, has expressed support for Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s plan to investigate the previous administration of former Governor Nyesom Wike.

News About Nigeria gathered that the politician made his position known in an interview with Sunday Independent on Saturday.

Kalu, the National Coordinator of the Peoples Democratic Party Coalition (PDPCO), described the probe as a normal procedure for any newly inaugurated government.

According to Kalu, such an investigation promotes accountability and helps the new government to plan and execute projects effectively.

He said, “Any government that is freshly inaugurated is expected to audit the activities of the previous leadership. That promotes accountability and also places the new government in the right direction for planning and execution of projects.”

Kalu also lamented the political crisis in Rivers State, which he said has made governance a challenge, particularly due to the legislative disharmony.

He said that procedures have been spelt out by law, and going against them truncates democracy and accountability.

The crisis in Rivers State has been ongoing since last year, with lawmakers loyal to former Governor Wike attempting to remove Governor Fubara from office.

Kalu believes that a political solution could have resolved the crisis if not for the defection of 27 lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which has complicated the situation.

Recall that Governor Fubara recently vowed to probe the administration of Nyesom Wike.

This announcement was made during the swearing-in of Dagogo Iboroma as the new Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state on Monday.

Fubara stated, “We will be setting up a judicial panel of inquiry to investigate the affairs of governance. So, brace up, I am not going back on it.”
