Justice Nyesom-Wike Suzzette, wife of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has been recommended for promotion to the Court of Appeal.

News About Nigeria reports that Suzzette, a former First Lady of Rivers State, is among 21 other judges recommended for elevation to the Court of Appeal.

Suzzette is currently a Justice at the Rivers State High Court.

Similarly, Ariwoola Oluwakemi Victoria, daughter-in-law to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, has been recommended for elevation to the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The recommendations were made by the Interview Committee on Appointment of Judicial Officers of all Superior Courts of Record in Nigeria, under the National Judicial Council (NJC), during its 105th plenary meeting held between May 15 and 16, 2024. A total of 86 judges were listed for recommendation, including Suzzette and Victoria.

However, the NJC clarified that all recommended candidates are expected to be sworn in after the approval of the NJC recommendations by the President and their respective State Governors.

The council’s Director of Information, Soji Oye, disclosed this in a statement dated May 16, 2024.

The NJC has taken disciplinary action against three judges, barring them from elevation for two to three years over various offences.

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Justice G. B. Brikins-Okolosi of the Delta State High Court, and Justice Amina Shehu of the Yobe State High Court were found guilty of different degrees of misconduct and issued warning letters.

Ekwo and Brikins-Okolosi were barred from elevation to a higher Bench for two years and three years, respectively.
