Landmark Beach Begins Refunding Customers Affected by Demolition

Landmark Beach management has initiated the process of refunding affected customers through its mobile application following the demolition of some parts of its properties by the federal government, News About Nigeria reports.

The demolition of a section of Landmark Beach on Victoria Island, Lagos, occurred earlier in the week to make way for the 700-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Nigeria’s largest public infrastructure project to date.

Landmark’s CEO, Paul Onwuanibe, had previously appealed to the Federal Government to reroute the coastal road project, citing potential job losses and the closure of over 80 businesses operating in the resort, leading to an estimated loss of about 12,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Images and video footage of the demolition revealed the dismantling of several structures along the coastline, including cabanas and football turf, as well as the demolition of the Breeze Beach Club located at the centre.

In a statement released on Friday, Landmark Africa, the parent company of Landmark Resort Beach, announced that the refund process has commenced on the Landmark Citizen App.

The management cautioned customers that the process may take some time due to the high volume of requests.

Earlier in the week, the company had announced the temporary deactivation of its app in preparation for the refund process.

However, the management has now confirmed that the app has been restored, and refunds are being processed via the mobile application.

“Dear Landmark Citizens, we would like to assure you all that we have started issuing refunds to those who requested a refund of their money on the Landmark Citizen App. Please be patient with us, due to the volume of requests, this process will take some time. Be rest assured that all refund requests will be processed. Thank you all for your support and patience,” the management stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Minister of Works, David Umahi, defended the demolition, stating that the landmark centre was situated on the Federal Government’s right-of-way, necessitating the action.
