A Kano High Court has granted an ex-parte order restraining the Inspector General of Police, Assistant Inspector General, and Commissioner of Police from inviting, arresting, or harassing All Progressives Congress (APC) ward officers in Ganduje ward, Dawakin-Tofa local government area.
News About Nigeria reports that Justice Yusuf Ubale Muhammad granted the order on May 2, 2024, also restricting the APC National Working Committee, State Council, and acting National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, from using security operatives to arrest or detain the ward executives.
The order was granted in a consolidated motion exparte filed by Jafar Adamu and 10 others, and Haladu Gwanjo and Laminu Sani Barguma, led factional ward officers, through their counsel, Shamsu Ubale Jibrin, Esq.
The applicants are seeking protection of their fundamental human rights as guaranteed by the constitution.
The court ordered an interim injunction restraining the respondents from inviting, arresting, harassing, or detaining the applicants pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
The case, on Friday, was adjourned to June 5, 2024, for a hearing of the motion on notice.
The two factions of Ganduje ward had earlier suspended Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, their kinsman and national chairman, over alleged involvement in misappropriation of public funds and criminal issues during his tenure as Governor of Kano.
Despite this, security operatives launched a manhunt to arrest the ward officers, following a directive from the state Chairman of the party, Prince Abdullahi Abbas.
Recently, Ganduje was suspended by a new ward executive committee in Ganduje ward.
The new ward exco, led by Secretary Jaafar Adamu, claims to be the authentic members of Ganduje ward, legally elected on July 31, 2021. This development comes after two other factions emerged, one suspending Ganduje and another declaring support for him.
