The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) branch at the University of Abuja has announced an indefinite strike at the institution.
News About Nigeria reports that the decision was made public on Thursday during a congress held at the permanent site of the university.
Abubakar Kari, the Dean of Student Affairs at UniAbuja and former convener of ASUU’s national political committee, confirmed the strike.
Kari stated that the university’s ASUU branch issued a communique declaring a “total and indefinite strike” due to ongoing disagreements with the management of UniAbuja.
According to Kari, the dispute revolves around four main issues.
Firstly, ASUU is concerned about the university’s involvement in a multi-stakeholder microfinance banking venture.
Secondly, there are grievances regarding promotion procedures in the absence of a governing council.
Thirdly, there are concerns about the election process for faculty deanship.
Lastly, ASUU has raised objections to alleged illegal appointments made by the university management.
