Lagos Police Restore Normalcy As Hoodlums Clash In Ile-Epo Market

Tension gripped residents of Ile-Epo in the Abule-Egba area of Lagos State as hoodlums clashed, destroying goods and properties.

The clash started on Wednesday night and persisted into Thursday morning.

Reports from the area indicated that shops in the popular Ile-Epo market were set ablaze, with goods destroyed in the chaos.

Attempts by the police to intervene were met with resistance from the hoodlums, who also targeted a fire service truck.

However, the Nigerian Police Force announced, through a statement signed by Lagos PPRO, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Thursday, that normalcy has been restored to the area.

News About Nigeria reports that the Divisional Police Officer of Oke-Odo, leading law enforcement efforts, responded swiftly to reports of unrest in Ile-Epo.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), Area Commander Alagbado, alongside other Divisional Police Officers, remained on the ground to prevent any potential recurrence of violence and maintain order in the area.

In a statement, the police disclosed that over fifty suspects linked to the clashes were apprehended, and the shanties they occupied were demolished.

The operation also uncovered a hidden drug den.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, ordered the prompt prosecution of the arrested hoodlums, warning that anyone found breaching the peace will be dealt with according to the law.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has directed the prompt prosecution of the arrested hoodlums and has equally warned that the Command would decisively deal with anyone found breaching the peace, in accordance with the law,” the statement read.
