'We're Intellectuals, Not Political Thugs' – NANS Seeks Peaceful Resolution Over Fuel Hike

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended the Federal Government over the reforms being carried out in the mining sector, News About Nigeria reports.

The president of the association, Pedro Obi, made this known in a statement, lauding the ministry for its effort to ensure that the country not only depends on oil for generating revenues but also explores other alternatives.

The president noted that the country is endowed with diverse mineral resources and, hence, has the potential to thrive beyond total dependency on oil.

He stated that the association recognises and appreciates the commitment of the ministry to ensuring that the reforms taking place in the sector are in line with its 7-point agenda.

“Nigeria, endowed with vast mineral resources, holds immense potential to thrive beyond oil dependency.

“NANS recognises the Ministry’s commitment to turning the tide through ongoing reforms in the mining sector, aligning with the ministry’s 7-point agenda.

“These reforms signify a pivotal step towards achieving economic diversification and fostering sustainable development in Nigeria,” he stated.

He called on all stakeholders to continue their unwavering support for Engr. Obadiah Nkom, the Director General of the Nigeria Cadastre Office.

He added that the exemplary leadership and qualities of the director have been instrumental in driving the president’s renewed hope agenda for the mining sector and facilitating the diversification of the nation’s revenue from the oil sector to non-oil sources.

He reiterated that the association is committed to supporting initiatives that will promote sustainable development and economic prosperity in the country.
