Matawalle Calls For Stronger Partnership With USA In Fight Against Terrorism

Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, has called on the United States of America (USA) to partner with Nigeria to win the fight against banditry and terrorism.

News About Nigeria reports that Matawalle made the request when he received the Assistant Secretary for Defence for African Affairs at the US Department of Defence, Jennifer Zakriski, and her team at Ship House today (Wednesday) in Abuja.

The minister called for more intelligence sharing between Nigeria and the USA, noting that such a partnership would help in bolstering the fight against insecurity in Nigeria.

According to Matawalle, the information and intelligence that are used by the US in sending prompt and early warnings to her citizens in crisis countries can be shared with Nigeria to avoid impending attacks.

The minister said, “It is indeed a privilege to welcome you and your team to Nigeria. Our discussion today underscores the importance of collaboration and intelligence sharing in tackling common security challenges. Nigeria values its partnership with the United States, and we are committed to enhancing our cooperation in defence matters for the mutual benefit of our nations.”

In response to Matawalle, Zakriski, while appreciating him for hosting her, noted that the US is committed to supporting Nigeria in it’s fight against insecurity.

“Nigeria is a key partner for the United States in Africa, and our collaboration is vital in addressing shared security threats. Today’s meeting marks another milestone in our efforts to strengthen defence ties and enhance regional security,” Zariski said.
