Following rumours circulating about the living conditions of controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, who is currently serving a six-month prison sentence, the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has set the record straight.
Reports had circulated claiming that Bobrisky was residing in a newly built VIP apartment within the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
However, the NCoS, through its spokesperson, Rotimi Oladokun, has debunked these claims, clarifying that Bobrisky shares a cell with other convicted inmates.
In a statement on Saturday, Oladokun said that there are no en-suite or one-bedroom flat-style cells in the Custodial Centre.
He said that the infrastructure is designed as shared buildings to accommodate multiple inmates.
Oladokun said, “The convicted inmate, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, aka Bobrisky, is currently serving a 6-month jail term for abuse and mutilation of the Naira note within the custody of the Custodial Centre in the State.”
He further explained that Bobrisky, like other inmates, is entitled to reformative and rehabilitative platforms such as educational and vocational training.
Additionally, he said that Bobrisky complies with the dress code regulations set by the correctional facility, wearing male-designated correctional clothing.
The statement clarified that Bobrisky receives no special amenities or privileges and is treated like every other inmate.
Rotimi added that all inmates, including Bobrisky, are entitled to family and legal visits, which are closely monitored and regulated by the NCoS.
The Controller of Corrections, Lagos Command, urged the public to disregard the misleading publications and assured that Bobrisky is subject to the same rules and regulations as other inmates.
News About Nigeria reported that Bobrisky was arrested and detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on April 3, 2024.
He was subsequently convicted by a Federal High Court in Lagos on charges related to naira abuse.
