Ogunjimi: Nollywood Mourns Passing Of Veteran Yoruba Actor

The Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood, is once again plunged into mourning as it loses another veteran Yoruba actor.

News About Nigeria reports that Ganiyu Oyeyemi, widely known as Ogunjimi, has passed away, though the cause of his death remains undisclosed at the time of filing this report.

The news of Ogunjimi’s passing was confirmed by fellow Yoruba actor Kunle Afod, who took to Instagram to share the sad news.

In his post, Afod expressed grief over the loss, stating, “We tried our best but God loves you more. May his soul rest in peace. Baba Ogunjimi, RIP, Sun re oooo.”

Ogunjimi’s demise adds to the list of losses suffered by Nollywood in 2024.

Earlier in the year, the industry bid farewell to actors such as Amaechi Muonagor, Andy Best, Jumoke Aderounmu, Sisi Quadri, Mr. Ibu, Junior Pope, and Zulu Adigwe.

In April, Junior Pope, along with four others, drowned after their boat capsized in the Anam River in Anambra State while returning from a movie shoot.

Amaechi Muonagor passed away at the age of 62 after battling a prolonged illness in March.

Muonagor succumbed to complications arising from kidney failure, for which he had been undergoing dialysis treatments.

The news of his demise comes as a shock, particularly in the wake of a recent viral video where he appealed for funds to undergo a kidney transplant.

Yoruba actor Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji, popularly known as Sisi Quadri, passed away on March 1.

Nollywood actress Abiola Bayo took to her verified Instagram handle to express her condolences, stating, “You will be greatly missed, Sisi Quadri. May your soul rest in perfect peace.”
