AGF Cautions Treasury Managers Against Corruption

The Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Oluwatoyin Madein, has cautioned Treasury managers against indulging in corrupt acts and practices, News About Nigeria reports.

She gave this warning while speaking at a training programme organised by the Chartered Institute of Treasury Management (CITM) in Abuja on Thursday.

She enjoined the managers to keep watch against corruption, fraud, and financial mismanagement and urged them to imbibe and implement a strong internal control system while promoting a culture of compliance.

Madein, who was represented by Alhaji Muhammed Aliyu, the Director of Special Duty, further appealed to them to expand their understanding of ethical principles and best practices, adding that this would enable them to strengthen their ability to serve the public well, safeguard public funds, and protect the interests of the government and the public.

“We must remain watchful against the threats of corruption, fraud, and financial mismanagement by implementing a strong internal control system and promoting a culture of compliance.

“Training and professional development are essential in equipping the practitioners with the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct the activities of Treasury Management Ethically.

“Let us seize this opportunity to expand our understanding of ethical principles and best practices, so as to strengthen our ability to serve the public well,” she stated.

According to her, putting all these mechanisms in place will enable them to achieve the virtues and behaviours necessary to curtail corruption in the polity.

She also urged the participants to uphold the highest ethical standards in their work and actions as treasury professionals, adding that they should strive to build a future where transparency, integrity, and accountability will be the focus in the management of public finances.
