Agboola Ajayi Emerges PDP Candidate For Ondo Governorship Election

Ajayi Agboola, a former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, has won the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship primary election, becoming the party’s candidate for the November election.

News About Nigeria reports that Agboola secured 264 votes, defeating six other aspirants at the primary held on Wednesday at the International Culture and Events Centre in Akure, the state capital.

Kolade Akinjo, a former House of Representatives member, came in second with 157 votes.

Seven candidates contested the indirect primary election, including Agboola Ajayi, Bamidele Akingboye, Adeolu Akinwumi, Sola Ebiseeni, John Mafo, Kolade Akinjo, and Bosun Arebuwa.

The primary election was overseen by a seven-person committee led by Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.

Ewhrudjakpo promised to lead the PDP to victory over the APC in the gubernatorial election coming at the end of the year.

He said, “You may be aware of my record that I was the one conducted the primaries in Osun state and we won in Osun and I’m here again to conduct the Ondo state and by the grace of God, we are going to win because the sun of the last year is still the same of this year, so the rain will fall and the farmers would have good harvest.”

A total of 627 delegates from the 18 local government areas of Ondo State participated in the election, according to Kennedy Peretei, the PDP Publicity Secretary in the state.

Agboola’s victory sets him up as the PDP’s flagbearer for the November governorship election in Ondo State.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election and the party’s candidate for the upcoming governorship election on Monday.

The election, which was held on Saturday, saw Aiyedatiwa amass 48,569 votes, followed by Mayowa Akinfolarin with 15,343 votes and Olusola Oke with 14,865 votes.
