Peter Obi Reiterates Commitment To Democracy

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has reiterated his commitment to the advancement of democracy in the country, News About Nigeria reports.

Recall that the report that surfaced on Wednesday posited that despite technical and logistical difficulties and irregularities, the 2023 elections, which produced Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President, reflected the will of Nigerians.

The report, however, noted that the supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) intimidated voters and suppressed their votes in Igbo-dominated areas of Lagos, during the March 2023 governorship election.

While reacting to the report on the election by the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labour, US Department of State, on the 2023 general elections, on Wednesday, the Labour Party, through one of its leaders, Obiora Ifoh, stated that the report was fair enough to admit irregularities that were inherent during the elections, including vote buying, ballot box snatching, and intimidation, among others.

“With all said and done, take solace in the fact that the report was fair enough to admit that there were irregularities, including but not limited to: vote buying, ballot box snatching, intimidation, and physical attacks on our party supporters, especially in Lagos.

“The report was magnanimous enough to note that supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) suppressed votes in areas dominated by our supporters during the March 2023 governorship election in Lagos,” he stated.

He, however, maintained that it is left for Nigerians to judge if the elections truly reflected their will, adding that the party’s commitment to the development of democracy in Nigeria remains unshakable.
