The owner of the Abuja-based Chinese supermarket, Liu Bei, has appeared before a tribunal at the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
This move came in the wake of a raid conducted by FCCPC officials on Monday, prompted by allegations that the supermarket restricted access to only Chinese individuals.
News About Nigeria reported that Liu Bei, along with her family, fled the scene on Monday morning.
The FCCPC officials, led by Boladale Adeyinka, had sealed the supermarket after interrogating Nigerian workers onsite and discovering Bei’s absence, as corroborated by Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage.
However, Liu Bei, accompanied by her family and estate officials, has made an appearance at the FCCPC headquarters in Asokoro, Abuja, on Wednesday at 11 am.
This move came in response to a summons notice issued by the FCCPC on Monday, following the sealing of her store.
Sanusi Shuaibu, the estate assistant facility manager, shed light on the resolution of the issue after the meeting with FCCPC officials.
He disclosed that Bei and others involved had the opportunity to explain their side of the story and provide necessary documents.
Following the meeting, the FCCPC officials unsealed the supermarket, satisfied with the explanations provided.
He said, “Yes, we went to the commission today and all the issues have been resolved. The owner of the supermarket was also present at the meeting with the officials. The owner tried to explain the situation and they allowed everyone involved to explain what really happened.
“They also asked us to submit some documents, which we did, and they also asked her (the owner) some questions. After the meeting, we left the commission and they came to unseal the supermarket.”
Confirming the development, an FCCPC official, who preferred to remain anonymous, acknowledged the presence of the supermarket owner at their office earlier in the day.
However, the specifics of whether the supermarket was unsealed were not disclosed.
