On Tuesday, ex-governor of Imo state, Emeka Ihedioha resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the current trajectory of the party which, according to him, are contrary to his beliefs, News About Nigeria reports.
Ihedioha submitted his resignation letter today, addressing it to the chairman of his constituency, Mbutu Ward, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
In the letter, the former governor noted that his decision is based on the recent developments in the party which are against his principles as a politician.
The former PDP chieftain, who have been a member of the party since 1998, lamented that the PDP has now deviated from its core principles which endeared him to the party in the first place.
He further stated that with the way the party is going, the party is no longer able to come together to produce better ideas that they would use to effectively oppose the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ihedioha further noted that the PDP has also refused to listen to any of his counsel on how to rebuild the party despite the current crisis rocking the party.
His resignation letter partly reads, “Since 1998, I have contributed my quota to the development and transformation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as one of the founding members.
”Regrettably, in recent times, the party has taken on a path that is at variance with my personal beliefs. Despite my attempt to offer counsel, the party is, sadly, no longer able to carry out internal reforms, enforce its own rules or offer credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
“It is in the light of the foregoing, that I am compelled to offer my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party effective immediately.”
