Protest: Police Accuses Nigerians Of Mass Uprising

The Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, on Monday revealed a plan by the Federal Government to establish a N100 billion Police Housing Fund, News About Nigeria reports.

The IG, who disclosed this during the launch of the inaugural Nigerian Police Housing Summit in Abuja, noted that the N100 billion fund is part of the President Bola Tinubu-led government’s renewed hope agenda.

Egbetokun further stated that part of his agenda upon assuming office as the Inspector General of Police is to ensure the welfare of officers.

He, therefore, noted that the housing funds is targeted at settling the current challenges of accommodation shortage that the Force is suffering from.

The Police IG said, “Presently, housing capacity meets only about 10% of the needs of our more than 400,000-strong workforce. Moreover, years of neglect have rendered existing barracks accommodations largely inadequate, failing to meet the demands of modern 21st-century policing.”

He, therefore, noted that as against the backdrop, the N100 billion housing plan aims at fostering comprehensive solutions for the swift delivery of quality, cost-effective housing solutions which will include both rental and owned for men of the Nigerian Police.

Egbetokun further explained that the housing plan covers not just officers who are still in active service but also those who have retired.

The Police IG also appreciated the President and the Honourable Minister of Housing, Ahmed Dangiwa, for the roles they played in order to bring the dream of affordable homes to pass for officers.

He noted that the President Tinubu renewed hope agenda has now become a renewed hope for officers in terms of their welfare.
