A film producer, Michael Ofuonye, has faulted the decision of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) to ban the producer of the movie Junior Pope was working on before his death, Adanma Luke and the production of the movie, News About Nigeria reports.
He criticised the move by the AGN, stating that the producer should be allowed to finish the movie as a tribute to Junior Pope’s memory and also as a way to honor the legacy of the late actor.
He said it would also provide closure for his family, the cast, and the crew of the production.
Recall that Junior Pope, and four other crew members lost their lives in a boat mishap while shooting the movie, ‘Another Side of Life’.
Ofuonye, reacting to the actions of the AGN, stated that the ban was not fair to the producer as she will lose millions of naira that was pumped into producing the movie.
“Donating a portion of the profits to his family is also a thoughtful gesture. It’s important to consider the impact of our actions on the affected producers by simply calling for punishment or cancellation of the movie in question
“By completing the movie, you can create a lasting tribute to Jnr Pope and raise funds for his family. Many Nigerians will be eager to see the movie and completing it would be a fitting way to honor Jnr Pope’s memory,” he said.
He further maintained that holding producers and directors solely responsible for accidents on set isn’t the solution, and proposed that an investigation by experts be carried out to determine the root cause of the accident.
He added that the implementation of safety protocols and insurance policies should be made compulsory in order to help prevent such incidents in the future.
