The traditional ruler of Sansani chiefdom in Gassol local government area of Taraba state, Alhaji Abdulmutalib Jankada, has reportedly died after gunmen shot him inside his palace, News About Nigeria reports.

It was gathered that the unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday night after the unidentified gunmen invaded his palace and shot at him during the attack.

According to report, the monarch was resting when the assailants, who rode into Sansani town on motorcycles, sneaked into the palace, went straight to the room where he was sitting, and shot him several times, seizing his phones afterwards.

A resident, identified as Musa Sansani, stated that they had heard the sounds of gunshots but had no idea it came from the palace, adding that the late chief was supposed to travel yesterday, but due to reasons not known, did not make the journey.

“The late chief told us yesterday that he was traveling to Ibbi for Nwonyo fishing festival, which is taking place on Friday and Saturday.

“We never knew the Chief did not travel yesterday evening, so when we heard the gunshots, we did not suspect it was inside the palace,” he stated.

The late traditional ruler is set to be buried after Friday prayers, according to Islamic rites.

The late chief had also been a victim of abduction, as he was abducted along Jalingo-Wukari road two years ago and released after ransom was paid.

The town has been thrown into a state of mourning over the sudden demise of the traditional ruler.
