The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday called on the President Bola Tinubu-led government to tackle the current economic challenges bedevilling the nation, News About Nigeria reports.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party made the call at their national convention, which was held in Abuja.
The opposition party urged President Tinubu to ‘rejig’ his economic team as a matter of urgency to salvage the current economic challenges.
The party noted that to achieve this, the President must review all policies and programmes that are stifling the economy and also suffocating the lives of Nigerians, including the increase in the price of fuel without cushioning measures, the hike in the electricity tariff, increased taxation, and the implementation of adverse fiscal policies.
The PDP further tasked President Tinubu with addressing the current insecurity in the nation, noting that it is gradually becoming the order of the day.
The communique signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, which was released after the convention, partly reads, “NEC demands that President Tinubu immediately rejig his economic team to bring in persons of proven integrity and competence without bias and vested interest to assist in repositioning the economy.
“NEC expresses concern over the ill-implemented policies of the insensitive APC administration, leading to worsening insecurity, harrowing economic hardship, a soaring unemployment rate, a high cost of food and other necessities of life, and pervasive misery and despondency across the country. NEC expresses serious apprehensions over the spate of acts of terrorism and violence, including the escalated cases of mindless killings, mass abduction of innocent Nigerians, and marauding of communities in various parts of the country.”
