Protesters Storm PDP Headquarters, Seek Removal Of Damagun As Acting Chairman

On Thursday, thousands of Nigerian youths, led by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Reform Vanguard, gathered at the PDP headquarters in Abuja to demand the resignation of the party’s chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagun.

The group also called for the sanctioning of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for alleged anti-party activities, News About Nigeria reports.

The group made their demands known hours before the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday.

Addressing the crowd, Usman Seidu, the convener of the PDP Reform Vanguard, praised former National Chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu for withdrawing pending suits against the party, clearing the path for the progress of the party.

However, Seidu criticised Damagun and Wike for undermining the party’s efforts and jeopardising its existence as a strong opposition force.

Seidu urged the National Economic Council (NEC) to act decisively.

He called for Damagun’s removal in accordance with the party’s constitution and suggested appointing a loyal member from the North Central to replace him.

Additionally, Seidu criticised Wike’s association with the APC, stating that his presence within the PDP undermines the party’s integrity.

He said, “The continuous presence of individuals like Damagun and Wike is not just detrimental to our progress; it is a clear and present danger to the very survival of our party. If the party fails to take decisive action against those who have betrayed our trust, then it risks losing the faith and support of its loyal members across the country.”

The group urged NEC members to make tough decisions to reposition the party for success.

This publication earlier reported that Damagun, on Wednesday, successfully held onto his position amidst attempts to remove him.

This followed the National Caucus of the PDP, which, in its meeting, extended his stay.

After the meeting, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba announced that Damagun would continue as acting national chairman until further consultations were made after today’s NEC session.
