The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has lamented the poor state of security in the country, News About Nigeria reports.
He bemoaned the deteriorating security system in the country in a statement on Thursday via X.
In his statement, Obi also called for the release of the remaining Chibok girls who were abducted from their school in Borno State 10 years ago.
The former Anambra State governor noted that it is cause for worry that after the unfortunate kidnapping of over 250 young girls, 91 of them have continued to remain in captivity.
He added that the innocent girls have continued to undergo different traumatic experiences at the hands of their abductors.
He further stated that the security situation of the country has not improved even after 10 years, as almost every part of the country is still experiencing different levels of security threats, and maintained that the people are living in fear.
“What is more distressful is that a decade later, the situation of insecurity in the nation has continued to worsen, with almost every part of the country experiencing different levels of security threats.
“In the last decade, our security situation has continued to worsen. We are today among the 5th most terrorised countries in Africa and the 10th most dangerous countries in the world,” the statement reads in part.
He, therefore, called on the government and security agencies to make more efforts to free the remaining Chibok girls from this long decade of captivity and reunite them with their families.
