PDP NEC Meeting Begins In Abuja

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, News About Nigeria reports.

Many dignitaries, including Atiku Abubakar, who ran for the presidency under the party last year, his running mate Ifeanyi Okowa, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, are in attendance.

This meeting is taking place at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja. It is the 98th NEC meeting and the first time since the 2023 election that all PDP leaders are meeting together.

At the start of the meeting, the acting chairman of the party, Umar Damagun, said he hopes that the decisions they make will make the party stronger.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara, said they urgently need to make peace and fix the party’s problems.

This publication earlier reported that the party decided that Umar Damagum will remain the acting National Chairman until the next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which will take place after today’s meeting.

This decision was reached during the PDP caucus meeting on Wednesday night.

According to PDP spokesman Debo Ologunagba, the caucus also agreed to reconstitute all reconciliation committees within the party to address any grievances and promote unity.

Ologunagba said, “Umar Damagum will continue to be the acting national chairman of the party until the next meeting of NEC. The party considers that it is important to have more consultation on that issue.

“NEC meetings will not discuss any changes in leaders. Rather, attention is focused on unity and reconciliation. Caucus agreed that all congresses in the states and local government should be concluded between June and August this year. Caucus agreed on the extension of the constitution review committee of the party to accept new recommendations.”

Damagum is said to be an ally of Wike.
