House Of Representatives Extend Resumption Date To April 30, Give Reasons

The House of Representatives has announced a new date for when they will come back from their break.

News About Nigeria reports that the lawmakers will resume on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.

This information was shared in a statement released to reporters in Abuja on Wednesday night by Rep. Akin Rotimi, Jr., the House Spokesperson who also heads the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs.

The statement explained that the decision came after the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, sent a message to Members of the House on Wednesday.

This change is to give members more time to talk to people in their areas and get their opinions for the constitution review process.

The statement also mentioned that the deadline for sending in suggestions about the constitution review has been moved to April 30, 2024.

It was further explained that this extra time would help the members prepare better for two important meetings: one about the state police and another about tax reforms, revenue increase, and digital changes.

The statement said these meetings will happen in the next two weeks.

“All inconveniences arising from this rescheduling are regretted. In line with the Legislative Agenda of the 10th Assembly, the House remains committed to being accountable and providing timely communications to all stakeholders,” the statement added.

The National Assembly proceeded on break on December 30, 2023, shortly after passing the 2024 Appropriation Bill and announced January 23, 2024, as the resumption date.

However, in January, the House of Representatives announced an extension of its ongoing recess to January 30.
