May Day: PDP Condemns Worsening Living Condition Of Workers

Elected governors from the People Democratic Party (PDP) are currently meeting behind closed doors at the Akwa Ibom governor’s lodge in Abuja.

News About Nigeria reports that the reason for the meeting is not clear as of press time.

Six out of the 11 governors are already in attendance. They are Sheriff Oborevwori from Delta State, Douye Diri from Bayelsa State, Siminalayi Fubara from Rivers State, Bala Muhammed from Bauchi State, Umo Eno from Akwa Ibom State, and Ahmadu Fintiri from Adamawa State.

This meeting comes before the scheduled PDP caucus meeting tonight at 8 pm.

The caucus includes governors, national assembly leaders elected under the PDP, some members of the Board of Trustees, and certain members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC).

Earlier in the day, there was a protest outside the national headquarters of the PDP in Abuja.

The protest took place amid growing tension in the party before the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday.

This publication learned that the protesters backed Umar Damagun, the acting national chairman of the party, and Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Displaying placards in support of Wike and Damagun, they accused some PDP members of causing trouble within the party.

Additionally, some PDP members recently demanded the resignation of the National Working Committee (NWC), blaming them for the party’s downward trajectory.

Damagun, a former PDP National Deputy Chairman (North) assumed the role of the party’s acting national chairman after the court suspended the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu in March last year.
