Kogi state Governor, Usman Ododo on Wednesday visited the immediate past governor of the state, Yahaya Bello despite the heavy security presence at Bello’s Abuja home.

The Kogi governor came to his predecessor’s Abuja home, alongside several security operatives and youth supporters protesting against the siege to the former governor’s home.

News About Nigeria reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) laid a siege on the ex-governor’s residence in Wuse Zone 4, Federal Capital Territory on Wednesday morning.

Armed operatives of the EFCC were present at his home together with policemen, and operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS), Counter Terrorism Unit.

Although the EFCC is yet to officially state the reason for the siege, the embattled former governor has kicked against the siege on his home.

In a statement on Wednesday, Bello said the invasion of his Abuja residence by operatives of the EFCC was contrary to a subsisting court order granted on February 9, 2024 by the Kogi State High Court of Justice, Lokoja Division, in Suit No. HCL/68M/2024 between himself and the EFCC, which restrained the Commission, either by itself or its agents, from harassing, arresting, detaining or prosecuting him, pending the judgement of the court.

In the statement, Bello also called on President Bola Tinubu to call the anti-graft agency to order.

He stated, “It is a surprise that an agency led by a lawyer could flagrantly disobey a subsisting court order by taking actions contrary to the reliefs granted. A situation where law enforcers disregard the rule of law is a definite recipe for anarchy, which will adversely affect every aspect of the nation’s economy.”
