The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has said that the Nigerian Army is committed to restoring sanity and eliminating crime in the country, News About Nigeria reports.
He said this while speaking during the opening ceremony of the Chief of Army Staff Conference on Monday.
He noted that the country is currently facing security challenges, including banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping, among others, adding that these challenges have resulted in the deaths and abductions of many citizens.
He also stated that the primary focus of the Army remains the preservation of the nation’s territorial integrity, safeguarding the lives and properties of loyal citizens, and upholding the principles of justice and equity.
According to him, the season the nation is in is more volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous than before.
He, therefore, urged the Army to continue to be adaptive, ingenious, innovative, and be ready to take on more non-traditional military responsibilities in order to help the country survive.
“We must continue to strengthen our operational capabilities, enhance intelligence gathering, foster inter-agency cooperation and prioritise the welfare of our personnel. Our commitment to professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights must remain firm and obvious to all.
“I charge field commanders across various theatres of operations, including our gallant troops, to remain committed to bringing the nation’s adversaries to their knees and restoring sanity in troubled areas across the country,” he stated.
He, however, commended the troops for their efforts and dedication in seeing that the country is secure and their unending contribution to global peace.
