The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has explained the cause of the collapse of the National Grid which led to an outage of power in Rivers State, News About Nigeria reports.

The Company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, made this explanation in Abuja.

She noted that a fire incident which occured in the early hours of Monday morning at the Afam power generating station in Rivers State, caused a partial disturbance of the grid, leading to power outage in parts of the state.

She, however, stated that during the grid collapse, the Ibom Power plant which is isolated from the national grid, supplied power to parts of the Port Harcourt region, which in turn reduced the impact of the collapse.

She assured the people this the grid has been fully restored and stabilised, adding that there is no cause for worry.

Nigerians have been battling with power outage including the South East as there is a constant collapse of the grid.

On Monday, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EEDC) notified South-East residents of a total system collapse which occurred at its transmission station at about 2:41 am on Monday.

The EEDC stated that the situation has resulted in the loss of supply to all its interface TCN stations and consequently, it is unable to provide service to its customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states.

Mbah however, reaffirmed the commitment of TCN to enhancing the reliability of the national grid and pledged to continue investing in measures to strengthen the grid infrastructure.
