The immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has claimed that the Federal Government is still subsidising fuel in the country, News About Nigeria reports.
He made this known while speaking to newsmen in Maiduguri on Monday.
He noted that, unknown to a lot of Nigerians, the federal government is still paying subsidies for fuel.
He claims that the fuel subsidy policy is the best policy, saying that although he had previously supported the federal government’s decision to remove the subsidy, the administration has now changed the policy after realising it is preferable for the programme to return.
He also noted that the federal government is spending much more on the subsidy than it did previously.
“You start implementing a policy because you are absolutely sure it is the right policy, but in the course of implementation, you come across bottlenecks, and you modify.
“The keyword in leadership, in my view, is pragmatism. You should be pragmatic. So when you make a policy, you start implementing it, and it doesn’t seem to work well. You should have the humility to stand back and say this is not working, and you modify it,” he stated.
He, however, condemned those criticising the Tinubu-led administration, stating that it is too early to make judgements and maintaining that his administration is a work in progress.
He added that it is harsh to judge a four year leadership in just nine months and urged Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu, while praying for the success of his administration.
