Members of the Ganduje Ward in Kano State have suspended Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over corruption allegations.
News About Nigeria reports that the decision to suspend him was announced by the Executive Council of Ganduje Ward during a press conference led by Haruna Gwanjo in Kano on Monday.
Gwanjo stated that Ganduje must address corruption allegations, particularly regarding a longstanding dollar case.
Recall that the Kano State Government had recently filed charges against the former governor, his wife, and others, accusing them of bribery, misappropriation, and diversion of funds amounting to billions of naira.
According to the charges, Ganduje, while serving as governor, allegedly received $200,000 as a personal benefit from a contractor awarded a government contract.
This action, the charge sheet said, is considered corruption under Kano State law.
The count document added: “That you, Abdulahi Umar Ganduje, sometimes between the period of February 10, 2017 or thereabout, at Kano in the Kano Judicial Division, while serving as the Governor of Kano State and being a public servant in the government of Kano State Respondents, agreed to do or caused to be done an illegal act, to wit, dishonestly and/or corruptly to your own advantage collected a kick back of the sum of $ 213,000 (Two Hundred And Thirteen Thousand United State Dollars) being money generated from people and entities seeking or holding the execution of Kano State Government contact and or project for the remodeling of Kantin Kwari textile market as a bribe through one of the contractors (agent).”
It should be noted that Kano Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf is the political godson of a former governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Both Ganduje and Kwankwaso are political rivals.
