A journalist, Joshua Rogers, who reports on the Rivers State Government House has been kidnapped by unknown Gunmen.
News About Nigeria reports that the pressman who works with Channels Television was taken by unknown gunmen on Thursday night.
Rogers was reportedly followed home from work. When he arrived at his home in Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area at 9 pm, the attackers approached him. They forced him into his car at gunpoint and drove off.
The reason for the kidnapping is not clear. However, a source close to the situation confirmed Rogers’ coverage of a government event in Ndoni, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area. The event was where the Governor and Siminalayi Fubara opened a new Primary Healthcare Centre.
“He was indeed kidnapped last night at his residence in Rumuosi,” the source said. “The gunmen took him away in his car. We are pleading with them to release him unharmed. He’s just a journalist doing his job, not some wealthy target. We have no idea why they would do this.”
Reports say the kidnappers contacted Rogers’ wife and demanded N30 million for his release.
This has worried media outlets in the State. It can be confirmed that authorities are investigating the incident but have not made any arrests yet.
This publication earlier reported that former Governor Peter Odili of Rivers State at the event declared his support for Governor Fubara, describing him as the state’s new political leader for championing the people’s interests.
According to Odili, Rivers State plays a vital role in the country, cautioning that any trouble in the state would ripple across the nation.
He urged Governor Fubara to govern with this consciousness, applauding his strides in various sectors within his first year, notably in public health.
