A Kano State High Court has scheduled April 17, 2024, to charge the immediate past governor of the state, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his wife, and six others with crimes.

These individuals will face accusations related to eight different charges, including claims of receiving bribes in dollars and misusing funds, such as an alleged $413,000 and N1.38 billion in bribery, News About Nigeria reports.

In the official documents, the respondents named in the lawsuit include Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Hafsat Umar, Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Ltd., Safari Textiles Ltd., and Lesage General Enterprises.

The Kano State Government, which initiated the criminal suit against these eight respondents, has prepared 15 witnesses to testify in court.

The case, scheduled for April 17, 2024, will be overseen by Justice Usman Na’aba at State High Court number four.

Confirming this development, the State Attorney General, Haruna Isah Dederi, stated that the case has been filed and all parties involved will receive proper legal notification.

Dederi said, “It is very true. We have filed the case but what I cannot confirm is whether he is served or not but he will definitely be served. What he (Ganduje) doesn’t understand is that you cannot run away from the evil day; it will definitely come to you and this will even serve as a deterrent to all of us. He was saying that we couldn’t prosecute him, forgetting that the offence also falls under the category of state offences. It’s not totally a federal affair.”

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano recently pledged to investigate Ganduje, citing the disgrace he brought upon the people of Kano.
