Former presidential candidate and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has said the party is a fresh option for Nigerians and a better alternative to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He said this at the party’s convention in Abuja on Saturday, News About Nigeria reports.
At the meeting, party members confirmed the new leaders, including the party’s national executives led by Ajuji Ahmed, and approved the party’s rules, slogan, and logo.
Kwankwaso used the opportunity to criticise the APC and the PDP. He said both parties have made life hard for Nigerians with their policies.
Kwankwaso believes the NNPP is growing fast and can solve Nigeria’s problems by focusing on education, security, and unity.
He said, “We are all aware that the PDP has completely failed. Many of us decided in 2014 and 2015 to bring in some positive changes. Unfortunately, we have seen what happened from 2015 to date. This is the same APC government.
“Therefore, as far as we are concerned, we have a failing party, which is the APC. We believe that this country requires an alternative to the APC and, of course, the PDP, which is the only party, in my opinion, and based on facts, because the NNPP today is the fastest-growing party in this country.”
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, thanked supporters for helping the party grow.
He said the NNPP is now the third-largest party in Nigeria, with many lawmakers and even a governor and deputy governor.
Yusuf praised Kwankwaso’s leadership and thanked him for guiding the party to success despite challenges. He said the NNPP will keep working to fulfil its promises to the people.
The convention was attended by members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), chairmen of the 36 states and FCT, and federal and state lawmakers.
