Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has tasked the management of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to address the current irregular power supply in the state urgently, News About Nigeria reports.

According to the governor, it was unacceptable that the state would have an epileptic power supply, adding that it was affecting businesses in the state.

The governor made the demand on Saturday at a meeting held with the management of the company in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

While lamenting the poor power supply in Osun State, Governor Adeleke noted that the state is a critical stakeholder in the Nigerian power sector, with Osogbo, the state capital, hosting the National Transmission Control Centre.

The Osun state governor, however, revealed that his administration is working towards enacting the state’s electricity system law.

Adeleke explained that this law will enable the Osun government to set up a power sector regulatory agency that will ensure that the people of the state are properly served within IBEDC.

The governor lamented the impact of the poor power supply, saying, “Apart from the fact that power outages contribute to growing insecurity, there are also issues of extortion of customers through transformer procurement, estimated billing that exploits the consumers and the inability of some residents of the state to buy energy due to the old metering system.

“To this effect, Osun is already working to enact the state’s Electricity System Law that will enable it to set up a Power Sector Regulatory Agency with a view to ensuring that people of Osun State are properly served within IBEDC franchise areas. As a government, we are already working to enact the Osun Electricity System Law.
