Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has reacted to corruption charges against him and criticised Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf.
Ganduje accused Governor Yusuf of using distractions to hide his failure to fulfil his duties properly.
In a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Governor Ganduje suggested that Governor Yusuf is diverting attention from the state’s lack of development despite increased federal government funds.
Responding to the charges of bribery totaling $413,000 and N1.38 billion, Ganduje said, “In their desperate attempt to malign me and my family, they either forgot or probably cannot conduct themselves by the dictates of the law.”
He pointed out a recent Federal High Court ruling stating that only the Attorney General of the Federation and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) can prosecute such federal offences.
Ganduje urged his critics to focus on improving the lives of the people in Kano rather than targeting him with false charges.
“They still have the opportunity to revert to my blueprint for the sustainable growth and development of Kano State. It is not yet late in the day for them to emulate my developmental strides. They can still salvage the situation, as my tenure was devoid of any wrongdoing.”
Recall that Governor Yusuf recently initiated investigations into Ganduje and a House of Representatives member, Alhassan Doguwa, regarding alleged misappropriation of public funds and political violence.
Yusuf insisted that these inquiries aim to ensure justice and accountability, denying any political motive behind them.
