The Nigeria Police have stated that they are unaware of a document circulating, claiming to contain the findings of an investigation into accusations of certificate forgery against Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made the denial in a statement released on Friday.

According to Adejobi, the purported signatory, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, lacks the authority to issue such a report on behalf of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) or any other department within the Nigeria Police Force.

Adejobi added that the police are currently probing the origin of the document and its circulation.

He cautioned the public against spreading unverified information that could harm individuals’ or public officials’ reputations.

“Furthermore, we assure the public that any official communication or report regarding investigations conducted by the Nigeria Police Force will be released through appropriate channels,” the Police PRO added.

Aiyedatiwa is one of the candidates competing for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the November 16 governorship election in the state.

As of Thursday, 16 aspirants, including 14 men and two women, have submitted their applications for the party’s ticket ahead of the election.

Among the male aspirants are Aiyedatiwa, Olusoji Ehinlanwo, Jimi Odimayo, Jimoh Ibrahim, and APC National Vice Chairman (South West) Isaacs Kekemeke. Others include Wale Akinterinwa, Olugbenga Edema, Olusola Oke (SAN), Olamide Ohunyeye, Morayo Lebi, Oladiran Iyantan, Prof. Francis Faduyile, Mayowa Akinfolarin, and Ifeoluwa Oyedele. Each male aspirant paid N50 million for the forms.

To promote inclusivity, the party offered a reduced fee of N10 million for female contenders. The party primaries are set for April 20th.
