FRSC Confirms One Dead, Two Injured In Anambra Road Crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra confirmed on Friday that a yet-to-be-identified female died, while two other people were injured as an articulated vehicle rammed into pedestrians along the Onitsha-Asaba bridgehead, News About Nigeria reports.

According to the FRSC, the tragic accident that claimed the life of the woman happened yesterday (April 5, 2024).

The command attributed the accident to brake failure, which happened when the driver was descending from the River Niger bridge on his way to Asaba.

When the driver couldn’t control the truck as a result of the failed brake, he rammed into pedestrians who were on the roadside.

The injured persons were taken to the hospital by the FRSC for proper treatment, while the deceased was deposited at a morgue in the state.

The Staff Officer of Public Education of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra, C. A. Iyiegbuniwe, who made the revelation in a statement, said, “The crash occurred today, April 4, 2024, at about 3:20 hours of the day along the Onitsha-Asaba Bridgehead. It involved an articulated white and green Mercedes-Benz vehicle with registration number NKE25LG.

“The vehicle had a brake failure and rammed into people. Two persons were injured and one female was killed. On arrival at the scene, FRSC men took the two injured persons to Toronto Hospital, Onitsha, while the dead were taken to Toronto Mortuary.”

While sympathising with the families of the deceased and the injured in a statement, Sector Commander RS5.3 Awka and Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi tasked motorists to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles and adhere to traffic rules.
