Okuama: Oborevwori Commends Tinubu For Withdrawing Army

The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has charged the Board of Enquiry set up by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) to probe the killing of 17 soldiers at Okuama community in the state to be transparent.

The Governor said this on Friday when he received on a courtesy visit, the Chairman and members of the Board of Enquiry set up by the Defence Headquarters to probe the Okuama killings at the Government House Annex.

News About Nigeria had reported that, on the 14th of March, 17 military personnel, comprising four officers and 13 soldiers, were murdered by residents of the Okuama community in Delta State while on a peace mission.

Following their tragic demise, the Nigerian Army set up a board of enquiry to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Speaking during the visit, the governor tasked the panel to ensure that innocent citizens are not made to suffer or victimised for a crime they know nothing about.

While mourning the victims, the governor assured the investigative panel that the state government would do all it could to assist the board with its assignment.

He stated, “I am very happy for this meeting taking place here today in Warri. Setting up this Board of Enquiry is a good one. In Delta State, there are two bodies we don’t play with: the Advisory and Peace Building Council and the Peace Building and Conflict Resolution – because they are doing a lot to ensure enduring peace in the state.

“In Delta State, we don’t encourage crisis. So, we want to assure you that whichever information you people want, we will give it to you, and we will also come up with our position paper to submit to you people before you leave. That will also guide you on the role that we have played as a state because if we don’t come with this position paper, you will not know the role that the state has played.”
