Bobrisky Fails To Meet Bail Conditions After EFCC Arrest

Popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, is unable to fulfil the bail terms granted to him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

News About Nigeria reports that Bobrisky was apprehended and detained by the EFCC’s Lagos State Command on allegations of abusing, spraying, and mutilating the Nigerian currency.

Bobrisky’s failure to meet the stipulated bail conditions mean that he will likely spend the night in custody.

The latest development was confirmed by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the Punch Newspaper reported.

“He has been offered administrative bail; however, he has yet to fulfil the conditions,” Oyewale stated.

Earlier, Oyewale commented on the seriousness of the allegations against Bobrisky.

He said, “He was arrested last night in Lagos, and he is at our Lagos command. We arrested him for alleged abuse of naira notes, spraying of naira notes, and currency mutilation, among others.”

Oyewale also emphasised the EFCC’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the nation’s currency.

Bobrisky’s arrest was prompted by reports of his involvement in the lavish display and distribution of Naira notes during the premiere of a movie produced by Nollywood actress Eniola Ajao.

In a subsequent statement titled “EFCC Grills Bobrisky for Naira Abuse,” posted on its official social media channels, the EFCC outlined the investigation’s focus on Bobrisky’s alleged actions.

The statement detailed Bobrisky’s voluntary appearance at the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Command, where he provided statements in response to the allegations against him.

“Investigation also revealed that he had also committed the alleged offence at some other event centres and parties at different times,” Oyewale said.

“Though our investigation is still ongoing, but he will definitely be charged to court soon,” he added.

Bobrisky has been in the news amid ongoing debates about the legality of cross-dressing in Nigeria.

The police spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said on Wednesday that there is an intricate legal context surrounding the matter and that there is no specific law against cross-dressing in Nigeria.

Nevertheless, considering that homosexuality is illegal in the country, he said he is aware of allegations linking some crossdressers to homosexuality, which constitutes a criminal offense.
