Tinubu Unmatched Among Opposition – Reps Member Speaks On Alleged El-Rufai/Obi Alliance

A member of the House of Representatives, Chinedu Ogah, has said that President Bola Tinubu stands unmatched among opposition politicians gearing up for the 2027 presidential election.

Ogah, who represents the Ikwo/Ezza South federal constituency of Ebonyi State and chairs the House Committee on Reformatory Institutions, refuted circulating rumours suggesting a potential alliance between former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), as a threat to Tinubu’s reelection in 2027.

Recall that Daniel Bwala, a former spokesman of the defunct Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, alleged in March that Obi was plotting to unite with El-Rufai in the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Bwala claimed Obi’s decision followed the Nigerian Labour Congress’s (NLC) move to assume leadership of the LP from Julius Abure.

However, addressing journalists in Abakaliki on Sunday, APC lawmaker Ogah boasted that he has yet to encounter a politician in the country capable of competing against Tinubu, citing his exceptional performance and track record.

Ogah said that Tinubu understands the nation’s challenges and has already begun addressing them.

“Who is contesting against the President in 2027? Who will run against him? I have even endorsed the president for 2027 and I have not seen anybody that will match him. I have not seen anybody that will match Tinubu in 2027; forget the noise on social media some people are making. Is it El-Rufai who could not win Kaduna, his state, that will match him? He is not an issue if he is running,” he said.

In February 2023, Bola Tinubu, the ruling party candidate, was declared the winner of the presidential election, securing 37% of the vote.

His main opponent, Atiku Abubakar, garnered 29%, while Peter Obi received 25%.

Atiku and Obi’s legal challenges to the election were dismissed by the court due to a lack of merit.
