The Lagos State Government has stated that it is committed to promoting and improving the theatre, not only in the state but in Nigeria as a whole, News About Nigeria reports.
The Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, stated this at the commemoration of World Theatre Day.
He noted that the Lagos State Ministry of Art and Culture will work on promoting theatre activities by engaging in public-private partnerships (PPP) and collaboration across the state.
Idris stated that the government is supporting initiatives to showcase Nigerian and African culture through various events and activities.
“The state government supports every initiative in the tourism and entertainment industry, and that has been our guide.
“We need to intensify and increase conversation and continue to loud it to the world because Lagos has a lot to contribute when it comes to theatre and tourism.
“We are intensifying more efforts, expanding the scope and making sure that more people are also involved. We are engaging more stakeholders in order to promote the theatre industry because we have a governor who believes in it,” he stated.
He also disclosed that plans are on ground to take theatre to the next level in the area of school competitions and also inculcating it in the school curriculum so that students in secondary school as well as the higher institutions can be part of promoting theatre and African culture.
He assured the people that they could expect more entertainment programs every month, as well as collaborations with public-private partnerships to further promote tourism and culture in Lagos.
