BDCs Debunk Rumour, Says Dollar Not Selling At N1,000

On Tuesday, Bureau de Change operators debunked news making the rounds that a dollar is now selling at N1,000 at the parallel market.

The clarification is following claims on X that Bureau de Change operators in Abuja are selling for N1,000.

The alleged fall in price was disclosed in a viral post shared by an X user, @ONsogbu who noted that people in Abuja can find the BDC operators along Sheraton Hotel, Zone 4, Abuja.

He also claimed that one operator known as Abdulsalam BDC is selling at N900 if one buys over $5000.

The post reads, “BREAKING. This morning, at Zone 4 Abuja, along the Sheraton Hotel, the dollar is selling at N1,000 – $1. Abdulsalam BDC is selling N900 if buying over $5000. There’s a mad rush to dispose of dollars at Zone 4. The dollar in the parallel market is presently selling at a lower price than the official market.”

However, the BDC operators, in response to the claim, stated that it was false and unfounded.

They also noted that there is no truth in the reports, as the dollar is not selling at N1,000 in parallel market.

Speaking for the BDC operators, Abubakar Abdusallam popularly known as Abdusallam BDC, revealed that the dollar is selling at N1300 per dollar.

“Dollar is selling at N1300/$1, not N1000 or N900,” he said.

Abdusallam BDC further debunked claims that he sold at N900 per dollar for people buying over $5000.

He also tasked the general public to debunk such claims, as nothing as such happened and they are still selling at N1300 per dollar.

News About Nigeria recalls that, recently, the Central Bank of Nigeria offered to sell $10,000 to each BDC operator at N1,251/$.

The apex bank expects them not to sell above N1,269/$, representing a margin of N18.
